Ferenc Török tells the story of the Fészek Artists’ Club

Török Ferenc’s new documentary presents the intricate history of the Fészek Artists’ Club, inviting the viewer on a special time-travel journey, where reimagined scenes from the club’s 1936 carnival ball also come to life, capturing the essence of both old and new Budapest’s cultural milieu.

A place that, despite being abandoned in the present, has served the same purpose for 123 years: a meeting point for artists, intellectuals, and the elite. Since 1901, the Fészek Artists’ Club has been one of Budapest’s most important cultural hubs, where painters, musicians, actors, and writers gathered and created. The documentary not only looks back at the past but also highlights the challenges of the present, as Ferenc Török, not only as a storyteller but also as the club’s former president, is dedicated to the future of the Fészek.

The director and his team conducted extensive research, processing written records of events from that time. In addition to the historical retrospection, the documentary also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking process, showing how the past comes to life in the heart of modern Budapest. The film is shot on 16 mm format, further enhancing the atmosphere of time travel. The visual world of the documentary is brought to life by cinematographer Zágon Nagy, edited by Csenge Hegedűs. The charismatic Soraya Hegyesi plays the main role. The writer is Bojána Papp, the choreographer Timi Papp, the production designer Eszter Takács, the costume designer Hajnalka Bognár, and the production manager Veronika Nemes-Jeles. The project is financed by Moviebar and Sparks, and the producer is Esther Turan.
